About
Professional development for educators: During 2017, 225 educators were trained in the PLT curriculum for elementary, middle, and high school students through conferences, workshops, and summer institutes. A special effort was made to encourage schools to participate in school site investigations. We held a two-art workshop to design schoolyard improvements for habitat and outdoor classrooms. We partnered with NH Audubon, US Fish and Wildlife Service and NH Fish and Game to provide small grants for schoolyard action including improving habitat and outdoor classroom. Connected teachers to natural resource specialists and field trip sites in and around their schools. A facilitator training session was held to update 10 facilitators on changes in the program. We introduced 3-units developed by Nation Project Learning Tree. Building vertical science literacy: Trained and supported 30 teacher-leaders from Milton, Fremont, Deerfield, Newport, and Sanborn regional school districts during 2016-2017 school year using environmental topics, inquiry and field investigations. Additional money was awarded to continue with a subset of 18 teachers on becoming a science leader. Early childhood: Joint early childhood using PLT early childhood environmental experiences and Growing Up Wild workshops were held for 62 early childhood educators. Educational support materials: A monthly e-newsletter is sent to over 2000 people. Presence on Facebook and Pinterest.
