About
THIS YEAR, 2019, WAS A VERY BUSY YEAR FOR GRAMMY'S HOUSE. WE HAVE A FEW ACCOMPLISHMENTS WHICH WE ARE VERY PROUD OF. 1.GRAMMY'S HOUSE RECEIVED MONETARY SUPPORT FROM A GENEROUS DONOR TO FUND A TOTAL RENOVATION OF OUR ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES. OUR ADMINISTRATION BUILDING WAS OVER 60 YEARS OLD AND NEEDED A COMPLETE OVERHAUL. WE WERE ABLE TO REPLACE THE HVAC UNITS AS WELL AS ALL THE OLD PLUMBING. THIS PROPERTY WAS RENOVATED TO BETTER FIT OUR NEEDS SO WE CAN BETTER SERVE OUR COMMUNITY. THERE IS AN IMPROVEMENT IN THE USE OF ALL THE EMPTY SPACING. NO MORE WASTED SPACE HOWEVER, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT WE WILL NOW HAVE BETTER SECURITY COVERAGE BY WAY OF BULLET PROOF GLASS IN OUR LOBBY, PANIC-BUTTON TO THE POLICE STATION, AND SECURED OFFICE WITH MINIMAL ACCESS TO THE OUTSIDE PUBLIC. 2.OUR SECOND ACCOMPLISHMENT DURING 2019 IS A TWO-PART INCREASE IN COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ARTESIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS (APS). WE CURRENTLY HAVE TWO (2) STAFF WHO ASSIST THE SOCIAL WORKERS IN THE APS. GRAMMY'S HOUSE PROVIDES PEER SUPPORT TO CHILDREN IN GRADES 1-3 AND TEENS IN GRADE 7. OUR STAFF FACILITATE SUPPORT GROUPS DURING THE LUNCH HOUSE. THESE SUPPORT GROUPS SERVE AS A SAFE FOUNDATION FOR YOUTH TO FEEL SAFE AND SUPPORTED IF THEY ARE BEING BULLIED, HARASSED, OR EXPERIENCING OTHER FORMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. 3.THE SECOND PART OF THIS ACCOMPLISHMENT RELATES TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE PARTNERSHIP FORMED DURING OCTOBER 2019, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH. GRAMMY'S HOUSE PARTNERED WITH THE SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKERS AND ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF TO BRING A POWERFUL GUEST SPEAKER TO PRESENT ON SUICIDE, BULLYING, AND OVERALL MENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS. OUR PRESENTER REACHED OVER 4000 CHILDREN IN THE APS AND CLOSE TO 70 ADULTS IN THE COMMUNITY. HIS PRESENTATION SPOKE VOLUMES IN THE SENSE THAT SEVERAL CHILDREN WERE COMPELLED TO REACH OUT FOR HELP AND DISCLOSE THAT THEY WERE SUICIDAL AND DEPRESSED. THIS WAS A SUCCESS AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO GROW THIS PARTNERSHIP SO THAT WE REACH THOSE WHO NEED OUR SERVICES.
