THE FOOD DEPOT FOSTERS HEALTHY COMMUNITIES BY ENGAGING A NETWORK OF PARTNERS AND DEVELOPING SOLUTIONS FOR A HUNGER-FREE NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. AS THE FOOD BANK FOR NINE COUNTIES, THE FOOD DEPOT PROVIDES HUNGER RELIEF TO 55,000 PEOPLE EXPERIENCING FOOD INSECURITY. THE FOOD DEPOT ADDRESSES THE CRISIS OF HUNGER THROUGH A COMBINATION OF SUPPORT OF A NETWORK OF OVER 145 PARTNER NONPROFIT PROGRAMS AND SEVEN DIRECT SERVICE PROGRAMS. EACH MONTH, THE FOOD DEPOT PROVIDES OVER 430,000 MEALS TO PEOPLE IN NEED-THE MOST VULNERABLE OF OUR COMMUNITY-CHILDREN, SENIORS, WORKING FAMILIES, AND THOSE IN ILL HEALTH. THE FOOD DEPOT'S HUNGER RELIEF NETWORK INCLUDES PARTNERS SUCH AS FOOD PANTRIES, HOT MEAL PROGRAMS, SHELTERS FOR THE HOMELESS AND FAMILIES EXPERIENCING VIOLENCE, YOUTH PROGRAMS, AND SENIOR CENTERS. AS THE FOOD DEPOT SUPPORTS THE HUNGER RELIEF COMPONENTS OF THESE ORGANIZATIONS, THE NONPROFITS ARE ABLE TO FOCUS RESOURCE ON THE PRIMARY MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION. IN 18-19, SUPPORT OF NONPROFIT PARTNERS REPRESENTED 73% OF THE FOOD DEPOT'S OVERALL FOOD DISTRIBUTION. THE FOOD DEPOT ALSO OPERATES SEVEN DIRECT SERVICE PROGRAMS TO ADDRESS THE CRISIS OF HUNGER AMONG VULNERABLE POPULATIONS. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE FOOD 4 KIDS, LUNCH BOX EXPRESS, SQUARE MEALS, MOBILE FOOD PANTRY, DIAPER DEPOT, AND FOOD 4 PETS. TO SERVE THE NEEDS OF ITS PARTNERS AND DIRECT SERVICE PROGRAMS, THE FOOD DEPOT ACTS AS A FOOD RESCUE ORGANIZATION, ACCESSING SURPLUS FOOD THAT WOULD OTHERWISE GO TO WASTE. RESCUED FOOD IS COMBINED WITH FOOD ACQUIRED FROM LOCAL AND NATIONAL FOOD MANUFACTURERS, FOOD DRIVES, THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTRE, GROWERS, FOOD DISTRIBUTORS, AND FOOD BROKERS. IN FY18-19, THE FOOD DEPOT PROVIDED 6.2 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD, ENOUGH FOR 5.1 MILLION MEALS TO OVER 55,000 PEOPLE IN NINE COUNTIES.
