Recognizing the inherent worth and dignity of all people, KIAC works for the well-being and empowerment of immigrants through education, advocacy and social justice.

Legal services program: During 2018, 205 new matters for legal clients and 105 new matters for tax and business clients were opened including 17 adjustment of status, 7 consular processing, 13 consultations, 7 DACA renewals, 1 FOIA, 15 green card renewal or remove conditions, 81 naturalizations, 45 removal defense, 6 U visas, 1 VAWA/AOS, 12 work authorizations, 17 business licenses, 3 ITINs, 57 federal tax returns, and 27 state tax returns. Eighteen clients became citizens during the year. Staff successfully secured asylum for 2 clients, withholding of removal for 1 client, voluntary departure for 3 clients, and secured release from detention for 7 clients on bond or parole. Added two accredited representatives to the legal program and started training for 2 more. Participated in 4 citizenship clinics. Conducted know your rights workshops for 130 people and distributed know your rights documents in English and Spanish. Additional volunteer staff was trained to meet the increasing demand for services. Average weekly volunteer hours increased from 273 in 2017 to 307 in 2018. Volunteers are currently the equivalent of 6 full-time staff.
