During 2018, nearly 7,000 citizens of Travis, Hays, and Bastrop County received legal assistance through Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas ('VLS'). Over 900 attorney volunteers donated approximately 14,000 hours of pro bono service. VLS held 165 legal advice and intake clinics, which resulted in 1,151 pro bono cases opened. Of the 2,565 pro bono cases closed in 2018, approximately 40 percent involved family law; 20 percent concerned torts, wills, and estates; 18 percent related to housing matters; and 11 percent were consumer law. The remaining 11 percent of cases included a combination of employment and income matters, individual rights concerns, and health and education issues.
