Mission
Since 1996, SouthWings has provided a network of volunteer pilots to advocate for the restoration and protection of the ecosystems of the Southeast through flight. SouthWings flies to uncover and mitigate environmental challenges related to climate change and watershed protection. We welcome a broad range of stakeholders to see firsthand the scope and scale of issues such as sea level rise, water pollution, community vulnerability, deforestation, and mountaintop removal coal mining. Our flights shape perspectives on the actions needed to stop and reverse these problems. We fly to hold polluters accountable and to promote environmental policy and planning, scientific research, public awareness and action, and ecosystem protection.
About
SouthWings provides an unmatched aerial perspective of the challenges - and solutions - to protect and restore the forests, rivers, coastlines, and wetlands of the Southeast. The Gulf coast, the southern Appalachian Mountains to the Atlantic coastal zone, and the southern Chesapeake Bay watershed are our three largest program areas. Thanks to our dedicated corps of volunteer pilots, SouthWings exposes the broad scale of environmental threats and inspires actions to conserve our vital ecosystems and the communities that rely on them. During 2019, SouthWings' volunteer pilots conducted 170 flights throughout the Southeastern region including the Chesapeake Bay, carrying 349 passengers.
