The mission of the Alliance Française of the Twin Cities is to promote the use and appreciation of French language and French-speaking cultures in our community through language classes, cultural programs, social events and information resources. Our vision is to build a community of people passionate about francophone culture in all its global diversity, and want to become–through high-quality native language instruction along with authentic and exciting cultural activities and social events–the indispensable destination for all things French!

SEE SCHEDULE O.CULTURAL EVENTS -IN FY2019, ALLIANCE FRANCAISE MPLS/ST PAUL ORGANIZED 155 CULTURAL EVENTS THAT REACHED 6,640 PARTICIPANTS, DEMONSTRATING GROWTH IN BOTH NUMBER OF EVENTS AND GUESTS. THESE EVENTS CELEBRATED FRENCH TRADITIONS, THE DIVERSITY OF FRENCH-SPEAKERS, AND THE TWIN CITIES' RICH ARTS AND CULTURAL COMMUNITIES. A MAJOR HIGHLIGHT WAS OUR BASTILLE DAY FESTIVAL IN ST PAUL WITH FRENCH FOOD, LIVE MUSIC, AND ACTIVITIES THAT GATHERED 2,500 INDIVIDUALS TO CELEBRATE ALL THINGS FRENCH. OTHER MEMORABLE EVENTS INCLUDED PARTNERING WITH HAITIAN ARTS ORGANIZATION AFOUTAYI, A CONVERSATION ON THE STATE OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE IN LOUISIANA, AND A MONTH-LONG CELEBRATION OF MOROCCO PARTNERED WITH RESTAURANTS, ARTISTS, AND INDIVIDUALS FROM THE COMMUNITY. ALLIANCE FRANCAISE STRENGTHENED TIES WITH OTHER INSTITUTES OF CULTURAL AND ARTISTIC IMPORTANCE INCLUDING THE GUTHRIE THEATER AND WALKER ART CENTER THROUGH THEATRICAL AND ARTISTIC EXPERIENCES EXPLORING APOLLINAIRE'S VISUAL POETRY AND A PRODUCTION OF CYRANO DE BERGERAC. CLASSIC PROGRAMS CONTINUED INCLUDING CONVERSATION GROUPS, FILM SCREENINGS AND OUR TEEN CLUB. BY OFFERING A DIVERSE ROSTER OF EVENTS, ALLIANCE FRANCAISE SERVES AS A BRIDGE BETWEEN THE TWIN CITIES FRENCH-SPEAKING COMMUNITIES AND FRENCH LEARNERS. WE LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO CELEBRATE THE ARTISTIC, CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL ASPECTS OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE THROUGH OUR EVENT PROGRAMMING IN THE TWIN CITIES AND ROCHESTER. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING -IN FY2019 AFMSP WELCOMED 1,204 REGISTRATIONS IN GROUP LANGUAGE CLASSES IN MINNEAPOLIS, ST PAUL, EDINA, BLOOMINGTON, OSSEO AND ROCHESTER. CLASSES ARE OFFERED IN FOUR SESSIONS AND ONE MINI-SESSION EACH YEAR AND TAKE PLACE OVER 3, 5 OR 10 WEEKS. AFMSP ALSO OFFERS ONE-DAY WORKSHOPS AND WEEK-LONG SUMMER CAMPS FOR CHILDREN. AFMSP PROVIDED PRIVATE TUTORING LESSONS TO APPROXIMATELY 100 INDIVIDUALS. IN FY19, AFMSP LED AFTER-SCHOOL FRENCH CLASSES IN 6 SCHOOLS IN THE TWIN CITIES, SERVING 69 STUDENTS. REGISTRATION IN HOME-SCHOOL PROGRAMS CONTINUED TO INCREASE. AFMSP PROVIDED 5 LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS A ONE-YEAR SCHOLARSHIP INCLUDING CLASS TUITION, COURSE MATERIALS AND MEMBERSHIP AT NO COST TO THE STUDENTS. AFMSP HOSTED 2 LOCAL SCHOOLS FOR ON-SITE FIELD TRIP EXCURSIONS.FRENCH LANGUAGE MEDIA CENTER -AFMSP OFFERS ITS MEMBERS AN EXTENSIVE LIBRARY OF MORE THAN 4,500 VOLUMES, INCLUDING BOTH CLASSIC AND CONTEMPORARY FRENCH LITERATURE; BOOKS FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS; FRENCH NEWS AND CULTURE MAGAZINES; AND MORE THAN 350 FRENCH-LANGUAGE FILMS ON DVD. AFMSP ALSO OFFERS ITS MEMBERS FREE ACCESS TO CULTURETHQUE, A DIGITAL LIBRARY THAT INCLUDES 2,000+ BOOKS, COMICS, VIDEOS, AND LEARNING PROGRAMS AVAILABLE 24/7 FROM ANY LOCATION. IN FY18, AFMSP LAUNCHED "FRENCH CORNER," A MINI-BOOKSTORE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ALBERTINE BOOKS IN NEW YORK AND THE CULTURAL SERVICES OF THE FRENCH EMBASSY. COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN NOW PURCHASE FRENCH BOOKS, FROM COMICS TO CLASSICS, AT AFMSP.
