About

On Sunday, November 18, 2018, 12:00 noon to 4:00pm in the historic Landmark Center Hall in downtown St. Paul, there was an ongoing special program celebrating Latvia Day in Minnesota, honoring the 100th year since Latvia secured its independence. Musical performances were given by the Latvian Church Choir, the Latvian School Children, Folk Ensemble 'Teiksma,' and former members of the ensemble 'Cantus,' all performing a wide variety of Latvian songs. Dance groups performing were the Latvian Adult Folk Dance Group 'Perkonitis,' the children's group, and the 'Verselica' international folk dance group from St. Olaf College. The 'Compass Rose Brass Ensemble' provided still another, different musical sound. There were many and varied Latvian crafts exhibits, children's activities, souvenirs for sale, and Latvian food to sample. The estimated crowd of 700 enjoyed the afternoon's festivities, becoming more familiar with Latvians and their culture.
