CONFERENCES -- THE ILA HELD THREE CONFERENCES. 1) IN AUGUST, THE SECOND LEADERSHIP EDUCATION ACADEMY ORGANIZED BY MEMBERS OF THE LEADERSHIP EDUCATION MEMBER COMMUNITY PROVIDED AN INTENSIVE, COHORT-BASED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT ON TOPICS SUCH AS LEADERSHIP THEORY AND DEVELOPMENT, LEARNING OUTCOMES AND ASSESSMENTS, CURRICULUM DESIGN AND INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS. IT ATTRACTED 58 PARTICPANTS FROM EUROPE AND THE U.S.A. 2) OVER 1100 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN THE 19TH ANNUAL GLOBAL CONFERENCE IN BRUSSELS. THE THEME, LEADERSHIP IN TURBULENT TIMES, WAS EXPLORED THROUGH NEARLY 200 CONCURRENT SESSIONS, PRESENTATIONS, PANEL DISCUSSIONS, WORKSHOPS, AND SYMPOSIA, AND SCORES OF INTERACTIVE ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS AND POSTER SESSIONS. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS WERE PRESENTED TO ALAN BRYMAN AND STELLA NKOMO. KEYNOTE REMARKS WERE SHARED BY HENRY VAN ROMPUY - "REASONS TO BE MORE HOPEFUL"; DAVID PETRAEUS - "REFLECTIONS ON STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP AND A WALK AROUND THE GLOBE"; MARGARET HEFFERNEN - "THE NEW LEADERSHIP"; AND JEROEN VEN DER VEER - "MY LEADERSHIP FRAMEWORK". 3) THE ILA COORDINATED WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA TO HOST ITS FIRST CONFERENCE IN SOUTH AFRICA, ON THE TOPIC OF NEXT GENERATION LEADERSHIP, HELD 30-31 MAY 2018. ACADEMICS, PRACTITIONERS, AND EDUCATORS FROM AFRICA, EUROPE, AND THE NORTH AMERICA GATHERED TO EXPLORE THE COMPLEXITY OF LEADERSHIP, LEADERSHIP PRACTICES, AND EVOLVING THEORIES OF LEADERSHIP THROUGH A GENERATIONAL LENS. IT ATTRACTED 109 PARTICIPANTS AND 71 WERE FIRST-TIME ILA CONFERENCE ATTENDEES.
