About this organization
Mission
To enhance the life of the surrounding community through arts and cultural experiences that embrace diversity, foster creativity and build community.
About
Kennedy Heights Arts Center provided arts education programs for diverse youth and adults. Through classes, workshops and community projects, students learned from and worked alongside professional artists in a variety of mediums such as drawing, painting, pastel, filmmaking, and photography. In our 10-week summer camp program, children ages 5-13 experienced visual arts, dance, music and theatre; while students ages 14-18 gained valuable leadership skills serving as camp volunteers. We offered a range of arts and cultural programs in schools and organizations engaging under-served and at-risk youth. Kennedy Heights Arts Center partnered with Woodford Paideia Academy to implement a schoolwide Arts and Culture initiative, including coordinating artists-in-residence, fine arts field studies and teacher professional development in arts integration. Our Masterpiece in the Making program at 12 public libraries introduced children to contemporary artists of color. Over four weeks, poet Wendy McVicker (Athens, OH) and artist Nancy Gamon (Cincinnati, OH) led a community art project called Common Threads, combinig text and textiles. 85 diverse residents of all ages expressed their personal truths through creative writing, and used their stories as inspiration to create a wearable piece of clothing adorned with text using stitching, painting and other art techniques.
