PROMOTE AND PRESERVE THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF MINNESOTA LAKE LIFE THROUGH INTERPRETIVE EXHIBITS, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT, AND SPECIAL EVENTS.

4,500 GUESTS VISITED THE MUSEUM AND GARDENS IN 2018; GUESTS HAILED FROM 150 MINNESOTA TOWNS, 47 STATES, AND 15 COUNTRIES. WE OFFERED 20 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES THAT SERVED 159 ADULTS AND CHILDREN; 42 PEOPLE WERE WAIT-LISTED. WE OPENED THREE TEMPORARY EXHIBITS: CAT'S CRADLE A SHOW OF ARTIST JOHN BUCK'S KINETIC, HAND-CARVED WOOD SCULPTURES; MINNESOTA BOAT BUILDERS, AN EXHIBIT THAT FEATURES THE STORIES OF FOUR BOAT BUILDERS THAT FUELED THE VACATION BOOM IN THE 1950S BY PROVIDING AFFORDABLE ACCESS TO TRAILERABLE BOATS; THE AMAZING GAR WOOD, A LAKE OSAKIS, MN NATIVE WHO WENT ON TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL INVENTOR, ENTREPRENEUR, BOAT RACER, AND NATIONAL ICON. FOUR SEMI-PERMANENT EXHIBITS WERE MAINTAINED, TOPICS INCLUDED: THE ALEXANDRIA BOAT WORKS, GRAND HOTELS AND RESORTS ON MINNESOTA LAKES, THE HISTORY OF FISHING AND FISHING GUIDES; FIBERGLASS BOATS; AND "KIT" BOATS. IN ADDITION, A 10-YEAR STRATEGIC EXHIBITS PLAN WAS COMPLETED AND APPROVED. A 3,200 S.F. EDUCATION AND EVENT CENTER WAS OPENED. IT IS A YEAR-ROUND LOCATION FOR MUSEUM PROGRAMS AND CAN BE RENTED TO GENERATE INCOME SUPPORT FOR THE ORGANIZATION, THEREBY IMPROVING OUR SUSTAINABILITY. TWO RARE AND HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT WOOD BOATS WERE ACCEPTED INTO THE COLLECTION. THE MUSEUM HOSTED FOUR SPECIAL EVENTS THAT WERE ATTENDED BY OVER 1,200 PEOPLE.
