THE ORGANIZATION WAS CREATED FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEVELOPING AN ATTRACTION AND A MUSEUM TO COLLECT, PRESERVE, AND DISPLAY THE ARTIFACTS OF THE SPORT OF FRESH WATER ANGLING; AND TO PERFORM A PROGRAM OF RECOGNITION OF PERSONS AND ORGANIZATIONS FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENT IN THE REALM OF FRESH WATER FISHING.
About
OUR MISSION IS TO COLLECT, PRESERVE, AND DISPLAY THE ARTIFACTS OF FISHING IN MINNESOTA AND TO EDUCATE FUTURE GENERATIONS OF ANGLERS. IN 2017 WE PROCESSED 5 ADDITIONAL ARTIFACTS TO THE MUSEUM COLLECTIONS VIA DONATIONS. THEY WERE RESEARCHED AND ADDED TO PRESENT DISPLAYS OR BECAME PART OF NEWLY CREATED DISPLAYS.THE MINNESOTA FISHING MUSEUM AND HALL OF FAME IS STILL IN NEED OF A NEW COMBINED FACILITY. IN 2014 WE PURCHASED LAND IN LITTLE FALLS AS A POSSIBLE BUILDING SITE. IN 2017, WE CONTINUED TO MOVE TOWARD OUR GOAL OF BUILDING ON THE 6.4 ACRES ALONG THE HIGHWAY CORRIDOR IN LITTLE FALLS. A NEW SITE WOULD OFFER THE SPACE TO INCREASE OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMING AS WELL AS COMBINING BOTH ENTITIES UNDER ONE ROOF AND SOLIDIFY A UNIFIED ORGANIZATION. OUR REGULAR PROGRAMMING CONTINUED WITH 5,872 VISITORS AT THE MUSEUM IN LITTLE FALLS. WE ALSO HAD VISITORS AT THE HALL OF FAME LOCATED IN BAXTER ALTHOUGH WE DO NOT HAVE AN EXACT COUNT BECAUSE WE DO NOT CHARGE ADMISSION AND THE TOUR IS SELF-GUIDED WE DO HAVE VISITORS THAT SIGN THE GUEST REGISTRY IN WHICH WE RECEIVE POSITIVE FEEDBACK. WE HAD 17 TOURS WHICH INCLUDED SCHOOL GROUPS, BOY SCOUTS AS WELL AS SENIORS GROUPS.WE CONTINUE TO BE THE ADMINISTRATORS OF THE MASTER ANGLER PROGRAM WHICH ORIGINATED FROM THE HALL OF FAME. THE PROGRAM HAS THREE AWARD CATEGORIES; MASTER ANGLER, EXPERT ANGLER, AND GRAND MASTER. IT IS ELIGIBLE TO ADULTS AND YOUTH AND ACKNOWLEDGES THE EFFORTS OF RESPONSIBLE ANGLERS THROUGHOUT THE STATE. QUALIFYING ENTRIES RECEIVE A LISTING WITH THEIR PHOTO ON THE HALL OF FAME WEBSITE AS WELL AS ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE AND A BROWSER-GENERATED CERTIFICATE COMMEMORATING THE ACHIEVEMENT OF EACH CATCH.IN MARCH, BOARD PRESIDENT JEFF DOTY, TAUGHT 27 LITTLE FALLS MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS HOW TO MAKE THEIR OWN WORKING FISH DECOY AND COMPLETED THE 4 WEEK CLASS WITH A TOUR OF THE MUSEUM WHERE THE STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO WATCH A VIDEO AND SEE OUR WINTER DIORAMA COMPLETE WITH A DARKHOUSE ON DISPLAY WITH A NORTHERN MOVING IN TO BE TAKEN.WE HELD THE CLASS OF 2017 INDUCTION INTO THE FISHING HALL OF FAME OF MN AT THE NORTHWEST SPORTSHOW WHERE WE INDUCTED THREE INDIVIDUALS AND TWO CORPORATIONS. WE HAD 245 PEOPLE ATTEND THE FRIDAY, MARCH 24TH EVENT. WE HONORED DECEASED HALL OF FAME LEGEND RANDY AMENRUD. WE HOSTED 5 MEMBERS OF THE LAKEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL FISHING TEAM AND COACH DAVE SHUEK WHERE THE STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO MEET THE LEGENDS AND ASK QUESTIONS.68 VOLUNTEERS OFFERED 1,575 VOLUNTEER HOURS ASSISTING IN MUSEUM OPERATIONS, MAINTENANCE, AND FUNDRAISING. IN 2017 WE HAD 23 NEW MEMBERS AND 164 RENEWED MEMBERS AND 57 OVERDUE FOR A TOTAL OF 244 MEMBERSHIPS.WE CONTINUED TO HAVE FUNDRAISERS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. OUR TWO BIGGEST FUNDRAISERS INCLUDE NIGHT WITH THE FISHING PROS, DECOY SHOWS, FAMILY FUN DAY AND CHRISTMAS TREE LANE. THESE FUNDRAISERS HELP US BUILD AWARENESS OF THE MUSEUM/HALL AND SERVE AS AN OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE OUR MISSION WITH OUR COMMUNITY.
