Meetings and events: CPR hosted many events in the U.S. and around the globe, including the 2019 CPR annual meeting, 'Business Unusual: Rules, Tools & Strategies to Disrupt Disputes,' in Washington DC. CPR's 2019 Latin America conference was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and included the International Mediation Competition. The 2019 European Congress on Dispute Resolution Management, organized by CPR's European Advisory Board, was held at Swiss Re in London and in collaboration with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR). Regional meetings were held in Houston, Philadelphia and Detroit. A Corporate Leadership Award dinner was held in honor of Johnson & Johnson. Several trainings were conducted in Houston, Washington DC and Detroit. At its 2019 annual meeting in Washington DC, CPR presented its 36th annual awards recognizing outstanding scholarship in ADR, focused on processes, techniques, systems, commitment and scholarship, addressing the resolution, prevention or creative management of major disputes. The Inspiring Innovation Award was presented to Mastercard and James Masterson, Assistant General Counsel, Litigation. Outstanding Professional Article Awards were granted to S.I. Strong for 'Truth in a Post-Truth Society: How Sticky Defaults, Status Quo Bias, and the Sovereign Prerogative Influence the Perceived Legitimacy of International Arbitration' and Ayelet Sela for 'Can Computers Be Fair? How Automated and Human-Powered Online Dispute Resolution Affect Procedural Justice in Mediation and Arbitration'. The Joseph McLaughlin Original Student Article Award went to Abby Chin for 'Streamlining Doping Disputes at the Olympics: World Sports Organizations, Positive Drug Testing, & Consistent Repercussions'. The CPR Founder's Award went to James F. Henry, CPR's founder and longtime president of the CPR Institute for a lifetime of leadership in ADR. The Y-ADR Annual Writing Award went to Nicolas E. Lopez, Director, Legal Affairs & Business Development for Otis Latin America and Gustavo Santos Kulesza, Senior Associate at Barbosa, Mussnich & Arago-BMA Avogados. The 2019 CPR Diversity Award was presented to Hon. Timothy Lewis (Ret), Counsel at Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis and Co-Chair of the ADR Practice Group. Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives: CPR is working to educate the community on the importance of diversity in the dispute resolution field and to promote CPR's own diversity initiatives and thought leadership through writing articles, speaking engagements and serving as leaders of diversity committees in the ADR community. These efforts include promoting and tracking its 'Young Lawyer' rule, its apprenticeship program in collaboration with LCLD and FINRA; improving selection by asking neutrals to self-identify and publishing a diverse neutrals brochure.
