About this organization
Mission
Our mission is to deliver innovative outdoor, science-based education programs for youth to develop critical thinking skills and to inspire natural resource stewardship.
About
Residential education programs at Grizzly Creek Ranch: Sierra Nevada Journeys served 7,751 youth in 2019 at our Grizzly Creek Ranch camp. 5th and 6th graders throughout the school year participate in overnight outdoor learning (OOL). These education programs use outdoor, experiential learning to teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and social emotional learning competencies. Students received full days and evenings of hands-on, engaging instruction during which they observe the environment and ecology, collect and analyze samples, and work collaboratively to solve science problems. 90% of students in the OOL program demonstrated improvements in the state science standards. Community programs: over evenings, summers and weekends, SNJ facilitates community development partners' programs for 10,000 children to increase accessibility to outdoor and STEM learning. Partners range across elementary school family science nights, camps for children with special needs, teen leadership camps, and other community focused organizations. Examples include the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and the California Endowment's All Our Sons and Brothers and Sisterhood Rising Camps.
