Five Acres' mission is to promote safety, well-being and permanency for children and their families by building on their strengths and empowering them within communities. Founded in 1888, Five Acres is one of the largest, longest-serving agencies in the Greater Los Angeles Area dedicated to the treatment and prevention of child abuse, neglect, and mental illness. In 2021, Five Acres proudly celebrates 133 years of uninterrupted service to vulnerable children and families in crisis in Los Angeles County and adjacent counties. The agency's programs benefited more than 9,000 children and their family members in 2020.

Five Acres Short Term Residential Therapeutic programs (STRTP) are designed and planned to meet individualized therapeutic and developmental needs, to establish reasonable order and structure, to provide a predictable, secure living situation and to produce opportunities for the development of social competence. STRTP program provide trauma informed, team based behavioral and therapeutic interventions to strengthen families.
