Mission

The Colorado Historical Foundation was established in 1965 to advance the study and preservation of Colorado's history and historic properties. While original efforts focused primarily on projects of special interest to the Colorado State Historical Society (History Colorado), the foundation regularly collaborates with other entities preserving and showcasing Colorado history. The foundation's four focus areas: accepting and monitoring historic preservation easements, administering a historic preservation revolving loan fund, project consultation and support, as well as stewarding endowments and restricted funds to support organizations and projects that further the foundation's mission. For nearly 40 years, the foundation's easement program has protected historic buildings, structures and landscapes that embody Colorado's storied legacies and unique sense of place. At the end of this fiscal year, the organization had 90 easements statewide.
