Mission

In response to the need for deeper investment in the community of color, StreetCode Academy acts as a bridge between Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) and the technology they need to thrive in a digital age. Our mission is to empower communities of color to achieve their full potential by introducing the skills, mindsets, and networks needed to embrace tech and innovation. We seek to realize a world where the digital divide is closed, catalyzing a diverse tech sector that is better able to solve problems.

About

In 2018, Streetcode continued to provide free technical instruction in coding (or hack), entrepreneurship (or hustle) and design for students in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and surrounding communities. Streetcode moved its headquarters to the Facebook campus, allowing its program to grow and serve 1,000 students annually. A deeper partnership was formed with Super Heroic, where 16 students, ages 9-14 years old, were given 1 year fellowships. Additionally, Streetcode hosted guest appearances from NFL Pro-Bowler Marshawn Lynch, GoDaddy CEO Scott Wagner, and Facebook CTO Mike Schreoper. The program model deepened to include mindset, skills, and network, and a new Motwani Makerspace was created to offer mechanical engineering skills. Overall, the core of students and staff were maintained, a deeper reach into community was launched, and Streetcode is prepared to make more change in 2019.
