The Jewish Community Legacy Project (JCLP) is committed to helping small Jewish communities honor their past while planning for their future. The JCLP is a resource for small congregations located outside of metropolitan areas that have an aging population and dwindling leadership and desire to insure their legacy.

About

The JCLP has now worked with over 100 congregations. More specifically, the JCLP has: 1) Assisted 16 congregations, which closed, create legacy plans that transferred over 3.7 million to local Jewish federations and foundations to establish cemetery endowments and legacy endowments; donated 29 sifrei Torah and in 12 cases transferred historic documents to the American Jewish Archives or local museums. 2) Facilitated the creation of legacy plans for 13 congregations that still remain viable. These congregations have transferred over 2.3 million to local federations, donated 1 Torah and 4 have thus far donated their historic documents to archives and museums. 3) Worked with 40 congregations which are in various stages of their legacy plans. Over 300,000 has already been transferred to federations for future cemetery or legacy needs. 4) Contacted an additional 95 congregations that have asked for information about JCLP or have indicated that they are not ready at this time to begin legacy planning.
