THE MISSION OF THE COMMUNITY FOOD BANK OF CITRUS COUNTY IS TO ACQUIRE AND DISTRIBUTE NUTRITOUS QUALITY FOOD TO PANTRIES, SOUP KITCHENS, AND SHELTERS WITHIN CITRUS COUNTY, FLORIDA AND TOGETHER WITH OUR VOLUNTEERS AND DONORS WE WILL PROMOTE PUBLIC AWARENESS, INSPIRE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT, AND STRIVE TO END HUNGER AND NOURISH HOPE FOR THOSE IN NEED OF OUR SUPPORT.

DISTRIBUTED 3,419,595 POUNDS OF FOOD IN 2018 TO 54 FOOD PANTRIES, SOUP KITCHENS AND SHELTERS IN CITRUS AND HERNANDO COUNTIES. IN JUST 7 YEARS OF EXISTENCE, THE ORGANIZATION HAS DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 14 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD, THE EQUIVALENT OF 10 MILLION MEALS TO INDIVIDUALS, CHILDREN, FAMILIES, SENIORS, VETERANS, WORKING POOR AND THE HOMELESS WHO ARE LIVING AT OR BELOW THE POVERTY LEVEL AND SUFFERING FROM FOOD INSECURITY. THE FOOD DISTRIBUTED IS RESCUED FROM BOTH PRIVATE AND PUBLIC DONATIONS AND PURCHASED FROM WHOLESALE WAREHOUSES TO OFFSET ANY SHORTAGES IN FOOD DONATIONS OR LEVELS OF NUTRITION. AS PART OF THE FOOD RESCUE MISSION, THE ORGANIZATION PICKS UP DONATIONS FROM OVER 20 GROCERY STORES AND 5 INSTITUTIONS IN THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE. TYPES OF PRODUCT RESCUED FROM THE STORES INCLUDE MEATS AND PRODUCE, DAIRY, BAKERY AND PASTRIES, AND ASSORTED GROCERIES. THE ORGANIZATION EXPANDED INTO HERNANDO COUNTY IN 2015, ASSUMING RESPONSIBILITY TO SERVICE MORE STORES AND MORE AGENCIES/CLIENTS. THROUGH NEW SOURCING, BULK PURCHASING AND TARGETED DISTRIBUTION, THE ORGANIZATION SEEKS TO COVER ALL FOOD DESERTS AND SUPPLY NUTRITIOUS FOOD AND SUPPLIES TO THE AREA'S 24,000 POVERTY STRICKEN RESIDENTS.
