Mission

Causa works to improve the lives of Latino immigrants and their families in Oregon through advocacy, coalition building, leadership development, and civic engagement. Latino immigrants and their families are the heart of Causa and inspire, implement, and champion our work.

About

Causa sought to achieve short term wins to achieve long term power to prevent the passage of anti-immigrant efforts and pass immigrant inclusive policies in Oregon. In 2018, we overachieved our goals by far and led a statewide campaign to defeat Measure 105 by a 27-point margin which set the foundation to win on two major policies that would advance immigrant rights in Oregon in the following years. The Equal Access to the Roads Act, also known as Driver's Licenses for All (HB2015) and state funding for Universal Representation. Throughout the last two years Causa:Trained over 100 members of the Latinx immigrant community to develop their skills around organizing, advocacy, and issue campaigns.Registered a total of 3,400 Latinx and immigrant voters. Collected 6,643 declines to sign pledge cards for IP 22 and educates supporters on anti-immigrant ballot measures.Attempted to contact 21,752 Latinx voters through canvassing, mailing, and phone banking. Sent out 130,687 voter guidesTurned out over 600 people to key hearings at the local and state levels. Engaged over 100 volunteers. No anti-immigrant policies passed. During the 2018-2019 legislative session, a total of 16 immigrant inclusive policies passed the house and the senate and were signed by the Governor. Between 2018-2019 the number of One Oregon coalition members doubled from 55 in 2017 to over 100 members today. The bulk of the members doubled in 2018 during the Measure 105 and into 2019 with the Drivers License for All campaign.
