The 2018-2019 Financial Year was WaterAfrica's tenth year of existence.During the 2018-2019 Financial Year, WaterAfrica granted $215,000 to World Vision, which used the funds to provide a lifetime of water, sanitation and hygiene to over 4,300 people living in undeveloped areas of Zambia.In addition, WaterAfrica raised the awareness of developing countries' need for water, sanitation and hygiene by doing the following:1. Conducting a Lake Oswego, Oregon Walk 4 Water event simulating the daily routine of women all over the world walking to get water. The event attracted 300 participants and contributions of over $65,000.2. Conucting a Wine to Water fundraising event at a local winery to introduce donors to the need for clean water in Zambia. The event attracted 100 participants and contributions in excess of $60,000.3. Presentations in local schools, civic groups and church groups about issues of water, sanitation and hygiene challenges in rural Zambia.WaterAfrica has been blessed to partner with World Vision, which has been activiely providing clean water in Zambia for many years. In 1990, only 22% of the population in rural Zambia had safe drinking water. By 2018, due to the efforts of WaterAfrica, World Vision and others, 60% of rural Zambians had safe drinking water. Since 2006, WaterAfrica has provided 57,000 Zambians with clean water, sanitation and hygiene. The goal of WaterAfrica is to provide an additional $200,000 in funding by the year 2020 to assist World Vision's intitiatives in Zambia.A donation of $50 provides clean water, sanitation and hygiene training for one person for their lifetime. A $200 donation trains a community hygiene promoter who then serves 10 households and a $400 donation provides trainers for a 10 person water, sanitation and hygiene committee. A $2,000 donation rehabilitates a water pump and $5,000 builds an improved ventilated pit latrine at a school serving 500 students. $15,000 provides a borehole, including all sanitation and hygiene training for 250 to 350 people.
