GLOCAL VENTURES MOBILIZES VOLUNTEERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD TO PARTNER WITH COMMUNITIES IN VIETNAM TO SEE DREAMS REALIZED AND LIVES TRANSFORMED. VOLUNTEERS SERVE ALONGSIDE COMMUNITIES TO HELP PEOPLE WORK TOGETHER IN INTERDEPENDENCY, TAKING CHARGE OF THEIR SITUATIONS AND MOVING TOWARDS A MORE EMPOWERED AND SATISFYING LIFE AS INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITY. DURING 2018, 232 VOLUNTEERS WERE MOBILIZED TO VIETNAM, DIRECTLY IMPACTING 8,720 PEOPLE. THE THIRD MASTERS OF NURSING PROGRAM WAS CONDUCTED AT NAM DINH NURSING UNIVERSITY, WHERE US UNIVERSITY NURSING FACULTY TAUGHT COURSES TO A CLASS OF 60 MASTERS STUDENTS. 15 WATER BUFFALO WERE DONATED TO NEEDY FARMERS. 4 SETS OF EXERCISE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AND STUDY CORNERS WERE INSTALLED AT 4 RURAL SCHOOLS. ONE NEW CLASSROOM, FENCE, GATE, DAM AND BATHROOM WERE BUILT AT A SCHOOL IN SAPA. 450 TEACHERS RECEIVED TRAINING AT 2 EDUCATION CONFERENCES. NUTRITIONAL PROGRAMS SUPPLEMENTED MEALS FOR 650 STUDENTS IN THE LAO CAI PROVINCE. 100 WATER FILTRATION SYSTEMS WERE INSTALLED IN RURAL SCHOOLS IMPACTING HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS. 1 IRRIGATION SYSTEM AND ONE HYGIENE POWER SYSTEM WERE INSTALLED AT A BOARDING SCHOOL AND A SMALL RURAL COMMUNITY BENEFITING MORE THAN 300 STUDENTS. BUSINESS TRAINING WAS PROVIDED FOR 40 BUSINESS OWNERS. FOOD PACKAGES WERE PROVIDED TO 200 FAMILIES. MEDICAL TRAINING WAS PROVIDED FOR 80 FAMILY MEDICAL DOCTORS. 5 MUSIC FESTIVALS WERE PROVIDED FOR 850 STUDENTS. MOREOVER, IN 2018, 145 ORPHAN CHILDREN WENT ON A 3-DAY VACATION TO THE BEACH WHERE THEY WERE ABLE TO HAVE A NEW EXPERIENCE AND 17 HIGH SCHOOLERS WERE PROVIDED SCHOLARSHIPS TO HELP THEM TRANSITION TO A NEW FUTURE. BESIDES PROVIDING FUN AND ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE CHILDREN, GVI PROVIDED TRAINING FOR 20 HOUSE MOMS AT 2 DIFFERENT ORPHANAGES ON METHODS TO WORK WITH CHILDREN AND BETTER CONNECT WITH THEM. IN ADDITION, 30 HOUSE MOMS AND SOCIAL WORKERS WERE TRAINED ON CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION. IN 2018, IN ORDER TO HELP FAMILIES BE EQUIPPED FOR A HEALTHY MARRIAGE OR GET HELP IN NAVIGATING A ROCKY PATCH, GVI HAD 15 COUPLES ATTEND A THRIVE MARRIAGE INTENSIVE PROGRAM, 35 COUPLES ATTENDED PREMARITAL COUNSELING, AND 12 FAMILIES ATTENDED A PARENTING SEMINAR. 35 WOMEN WHO ARE VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ATTENDED A TRAINING ALONG WITH STAFF FROM THE PEACE HOUSE SHELTER IN ORDER TO LEARN BETTER WAYS TO COPE WITH PTSD.
