Mission

Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale, Inc. (the "League" or "Organization") is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The League's purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The League's support comes primarily from member dues and contributions.

About

The League has trained thousands of women to address community needs and to take on leadership roles at every level. Community programs allow members to impact the community through direct involvement of volunteer time and the League's monetary resources. Some of the current projects (program services) of the League are as follows: Human Trafficking Awareness is the League's current community impact project to develop and deliver a human trafficking awareness campaign to the community. Parent and guardian education on this topic is found to be lacking, as confirmed by the Broward Sherriff's Office and the Broward Human Trafficking Coalition. The Child Fitness and Nutrition combines two programs to successfully address the obesity epidemic affecting children living in Broward County through nutrition education and the promotion of a physically active lifestyle. The programs consist of: (1) Healthfully Ever After, a literary adventure through MyPyramid for Kids and (2) Kids in the Kitchen which is a program where Children make a healthy snack with the League volunteers after they participate in the League's annual Kids' Fun Run, part of the League's Riverwalk Run event. All children receive medals upon completion of the Kids' Fun Run, as well as, nutritional information from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and learn about The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc's Kids in the Kitchen program. Done in a Day program is members coming together to target short term volunteer projects that can be accomplished in a single day. Projects have included, but are not limited to: Preparing meals for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House; Volunteering during Fleet Week; Collecting cribs for the babies at Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center; Hosting a Halloween party at Kids in Distress (KID); Collecting gifts for children at Jack and Jill Children's Center to give their caregivers; Collecting housewarming items for the FLITE Center to benefit foster children; Volunteering to paint rooms at Henderson Behavioral Health; Building homes with Habitat for Humanity.
