About

The mission of the United Way of Colquitt County,Inc. is to organize, coordinate, and maximize the resources available to our diverse community and to improve the quality of life. In 2018, the United Way of Colquitt County, Inc. provided over $387,025 in grants to 20 Human Service agencies by funding 33 programs serving more than 12,000 individuals in Colquitt County. Annually, the United Way provides assistance and funding to make possible the Dictionary Project which provides a student dictionary to every 3rd grader in Colquitt County. 816 dictionaries were dispersed which included a gazetteer and other fun facts for learning.Day of Action was held September 2018 where more than 125 volunteers worked at 9 agencies on projects of need. Children's Toy Shop, Colquitt County Arts Center, Hero House, Moultrie YMCA, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Moultrie/Colquitt County, Easter Seals/Colquitt Options, Green Oaks Center, Moultrie Senior Center, Southwest Georgia Community Action Council all had teams of volunteers working and two wheelchair ramps were built for two families in need. More than 1000 hours were given by volunteers for these projects. A Community Impact grant was also awarded to two organizations, Family Connections and Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Family Connections received a three year grant to provide funding for a Colquitt County baby book in order to develop community awareness of the literacy crisis in our county and to promote early literacy and build relationships between family members. CRMC received a three year grant for a health occupations internship and math enrichment program that presents rising high school seniors an opportunity to explore a variety of healthcare occupations while supporting students with additional assistance in the development of math skills. This program is designed to improve student readiness for college entrance exams, improve test scores for exams like the ACT and SAT, and for exposure to healthcare education and training. Other grants for the 2018 year included the Colquitt County Art Center's ABC grant, Southwest Community Action Council's summer expansion program, and the completion of the Moultrie/Colquitt County Library's Story Time in the Park grant. In 2018, the United Way contracted with Amanda Beaty as a grant writer to work for local agencies in securing new funding sources through grants in order to help them achieve their goals for the community. During 2018, a grant for $24,000 was awarded to our partner agency,the Serenity House, for a playground for the children. The United Way also provided $26,500 in special grants to aid the YMCA downtown expansion, a van for the Green Oaks Center, and aid renovations for two bathrooms for the shelter at Cross Roads Gospel Rescue Mission.
