Mission
The United Way of Sumter, Clarendon, and Lee Counties is a charitable volunteer organization which eliminates the need and excess cost of many separate fund drives in our communities. Economics of scale and a rigorous review process ensures each dollar is used in the most efficient manner possible. Each dollar is also wisely invested in real community needs. The United Way of Sumter, Clarendon, and Lee Counties was originally founded in the early 1940's and served only Sumter County. In 1978 Clarendon County was added followed by Lee County in 1987. Today the United Way funds over 30 community partner agencies. It also utilizes the knowledge and concern of its vast volunteer base to exercise leadership in community building.
