About this organization
Mission
The Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project's primary mission is to secure the exoneration and release of persons who have been convicted of crimes they did not commit and who are serving sentences in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. We litigate compelling innocence claims that have undergone a rigorous screening and investigation process. In addition, because we recognize that correcting wrongful convictions after the fact is extremely difficult, we work to prevent the conviction of innocent people in the first place by striving to improve the criminal justice system.
