About this organization
Mission
At the Human Trafficking Legal Center, we believe that when human trafficking survivors have lawyers, survivors have rights. We create a bridge between trafficking survivors and highly skilled pro bono legal representation. Together we work to hold traffickers accountable for their crimes through civil litigation and criminal restitution. The Human Trafficking Legal Center gains compensation for survivors so that they can reclaim their lives. We are a non-profit organization, monitoring the federal government and working to improve federal policy to benefit trafficking survivors.
About
Referrals of trafficking cases to pro bono counsel: The Human Trafficking Legal Center referred 37 cases to pro bono attorneys for legal services in 2019. These referrals leveraged millions of dollars in free legal services for trafficking victims who otherwise would not have had legal representation. In addition to these referrals, The Human Trafficking Legal Center handled a small number of immigration cases in-house, representing clients directly.
