Mission

The mission of the Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA) is to eliminate sexual violence and its impact by providing education, advocacy, and support to women, men, and children. Our vision is a community free from sexual violence. We serve residents of Charlottesville, and Albemarle, Nelson, Louisa, Fluvanna, and Greene counties, Virginia who have experienced any kind of sexual violence.

About

Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA) provides direct services and education to approximately 550 survivors and 1,500 students each year. We reach hundreds more through our community outreach programs. SARA works with the City of Charlottesville, and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson counties. We also occasionally serve survivors from a broader regional area (for example Buckingham county) because we may be the closest rape crisis center or because they may have come to UVA hospital for the forensic exam. SARA is fully accredited through the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance. We are the only agency to provide these services in this service area. We don't charge for our services, and while we do receive grant funding, this does not cover all of our expenses. We rely on community support to provide these services.
