Mission

Independent, intercultural, entertaining, and uncensored, Mosaic Theater Company is committed to making transformational, socially-relevant art, to producing plays by authors on the front lines of conflict zones, and to building a fusion community to address some of the most pressing issues of our times. Dedicated to making our theater a model of diversity and inclusion at every strata, on stage and off, Mosaic invests in the new as we keep abreast of our changing and challenging times to ensure that our theater is a responsive gathering space, all the while nurturing and producing art of the highest order. We complement our productions with engagement through free pre- and post-show programming, our annual Voices From a Changing Middle East Festival, and educational initiatives.

About

IN MARCH OF 2016 MOSAIC THEATER ANNOUNCED THE RECEIPT OF AN EXTRAORDINARY ONE MILLION DOLLAR GRANT FROM THE REVA AND DAVID LOGAN FOUNDATION. THIS GAME-CHANGING FINANCIAL SUPPORT ALLOWED THE COMPANY TO CREATE THE REVA AND DAVID LOGAN FOUNDATION COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVE. THERE ARE A RANGE OF ACTIVITIES THAT MOSAIC UNDERTAKES TO ACHIEVE THESE OBJECTIVES, THE MOST VISIBLE OF WHICH IS A ROBUST POST-SHOW DISCUSSION SERIES FACILITATED BY MOSAIC STAFF AND BOARD MEMBERS, WHICH AIMS TO PROVIDE AUDIENCES WITH OPPORTUNITIES FOR DEEPER REFLECTION AND DISCUSSION ALONGSIDE PANELISTS WHO BRING EXPERTISE ON TOPICS RAISED IN OUR PRODUCTIONS. THESE CONVERSATIONS ARE CAREFULLY CURATED, INTENTIONALLY INCLUSIVE, AND OFFERED AFTER 65% OF PERFORMANCES. ADDITIONALLY, A WEEKDAY STUDENT AND SENIOR MATINEE PROGRAM PROVIDES FREE PERFORMANCES OF ALL MAINSTAGE SERIES PLAYS FOR DC PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND SENIOR CITIZENS. A NEWER ARTISTIC INITIATIVE, THE LOCALLY GROWN MOSAIC, PROVIDES A PLATFORM FOR LOCAL ARTISTS TO SHARE THEIR WORK THROUGH WORLD PREMIERE PRODUCTIONS, NEW PLAY READINGS AND WORKSHOPS, AND BOOK SALES IN OUR POP-UP LOCAL VOICES BOOKSTORE. THE BOOKSTORE, FEATURING WORKS BY LOCAL TRANS AND GENDER FLUID AUTHORS OF COLOR, ALONGSIDE WORKS BY MOSAIC AUTHORS, OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE LIFTING OF LOCAL VOICES AND THE PRESENTATION OF READINGS IN THE ATLAS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER LOBBY. IN ADDITION, OUR OPEN MIC PEACE CAFES OFFER LOCAL POETS AND PERFORMANCE ARTISTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE ARTISTIC RESPONSE PIECES INSPIRED BY THE WORK SEEN ON STAGE.
