THEY ALSO PARTICIPATED IN ACADEMIC TUTORING, ENGAGED WITH POSITIVE ROLE MODELS, EXPLORED CAREERS, PARTICIPATED IN ORGANIZED ATHLETICS AND ARTS PROGRAMS, AND LEARNED SKILLS TO HAVE BRIGHTER FUTURES.IN 2018, BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS SERVED A TOTAL OF 37,381 MEMBERS AND 5,035 YOUTH ON A DAILY BASIS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. 6,407 MEMBERS ATTENDED THE CLUBS 52 OR MORE TIMES. 97% OF CLUB MEMBERS ARE MINORITIES, 93% QUALIFY FOR FREE/REDUCED LUNCH, AND 59% COME FROM SINGLE-PARENT HOUSEHOLDS.ALONG WITH OUR PROGRAMMING FOR YOUTH, BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS IS COMMITTED TO SERVING FAMILIES LIVING IN LOW-INCOME AND IMPOVERISHED MILWAUKEE NEIGHBORHOODS. IN 2018, THE CLUBS PARTNERED WITH MILWAUKEE CENTER FOR INDEPENDENCE TO OFFER THANKSGIVING AND HOLIDAY DINNERS AT SCHOOL-BASED AND STANDALONE CLUB SITES SERVING OVER 500 FAMILIES.BOYS & GIRLS CLUB'S ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO HELP MEMBERS PREPARE FOR AND ACHIEVE ACADEMIC AND CAREER SUCCESS AFTER GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL. CLUB MEMBERS RECEIVE HOMEWORK HELP, TARGETED ACADEMIC INTERVENTIONS, CAREER PLANNING, AND PROFESSIONAL MENTORSHIP TO HELP THEM SUCCEED IN SCHOOL AND PREPARE TO ENTER THE WORKFORCE AS ADULTS. IN 2018, 15,532 MEMBERS REGULARLY ATTENDED POWER HOUR AND OTHER ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT. POWER HOUR IS DEDICATED TIME TO HELP CLUB MEMBERS COMPLETE THEIR HOMEWORK AND PREPARE FOR CLASSROOM TESTS. IN THE MOST RECENT SCHOOL YEAR ASSESSED, 80% OF CLUB MEMBERS SURVEYED SAID THE CLUBS HELPED THEM FINISH THEIR HOMEWORK ON TIME.MARVAN SCHOLARS PROVIDES ACADEMIC SUPPORT AFTER SCHOOL AT THE CLUBS THROUGH THE USE OF AN INSTRUCTIONAL SOFTWARE, ODYSSEY COMPASS LEARNING, WHICH ALLOWS EACH STUDENT TO WORK AT THEIR OWN PACE. STAFF MONITOR THEIR PROGRESS AND ADJUST ACADEMIC SUPPORT ACCORDINGLY. MARVAN SCHOLARS REFLECTS THE CLUBS' STRATEGIC EFFORTS TO HELP OUR MEMBERS WORK TOWARD PROFICIENCY IN MATH AND READING. THE PROGRAM SERVED OVER 2,550 STUDENTS IN 2018.THE MILWAUKEE PARTNERSHIP SCHOOLS PROGRAM IS AN INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS, MILWAUKEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, AND CITY YEAR MILWAUKEE. BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OFFERS ARTS INSTRUCTION AT EACH OF ITS 44 LOCATIONS AND PARTNERS WITH MILWAUKEE ART ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDING FIRST STAGE, THE MILWAUKEE YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, AND THE WISCONSIN CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC. THE SED DEPARTMENT BEGAN TO PROVIDE DIRECT COACHING FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONALS IN BEST PRACTICE ENGAGEMENT, AND EMBEDDED SED STRATEGIES WITHIN ARTS AND ACADEMIC PROGRAMMING TO ENCOURAGE CURRENT BEST PRACTICES IN YOUTH DEVELOPMENT.BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS' SPORTS PROGRAMS ALLOW YOUTH TO PARTICIPATE IN ORGANIZED LEAGUES UNDER THE DIRECTION OF PROFESSIONAL COACHES AT LITTLE TO NO COST. LAST YEAR, MORE THAN 12,500 CLUB MEMBERS PARTICIPATED IN SPORTS, RECREATION, AND HEALTH & WELLNESS PROGRAMMING.
