Abilities First works to empower people with disabilities to achieve their unique potential from birth through life. Founded in 1958, Abilities First is a non-profit organization located in Middletown, Ohio that serves children and adults with a wide range of disabilities. We believe that every citizen working to their full potential creates a more prosperous community for everyone.

Abilities First operated two facilities for comprehensive residential care. The Doty House is located in Middletown and the Hopewell Residential Center is located in Franklin, OH. Each facility is "home" to children and adults of physical disability and mental disability, for who continuous, high quality care is the most beneficial option. Our unique, warm, family atmosphere with capable nursing assistance and in-house therapy services enables young men and women to experience lilfe at its fullest. Regular at-home activities like meals and self-care, as well as work, school, and special leisure activities, offer a multitude of opportunities for personal growth as they master new challenges, residents broaden their range of skills and abilities and their self-esteem flourishes. Residents feel completely at home in a place where security, acceptanve, and a sense of belonging abound the stability of "family" provides a strong foundation for living at its highest potential. There are about 30 residents in the program.
