Mission

Our mission is to preserve, cultivate and share the history of Sylvester Manor to ensure that food and art remain connected to the community and the land.

About

Preservation - over 105 acres of Sylvester Manors land has been conserved. To date, 22 acres are permanently preserved as open space. Development rights on another 83.5 acres have been purchased by Suffolk County and the Town of Shelter Island for preservation as agricultural land. In addition to land conservation, efforts are just beginning to preserve and sustain the propertys manor house, its historic garden and unique cultural landscape. Every year Sylvester Manor curates and presents exhibits in the manor house that incorporate and display Sylvester Manors extensive historic collection. Sylvester Manor also hosts regular tours of the manor house and accompanying exhibits. Sylvester Manor collaborates with New York University and the University of Massachusetts-Boston on ongoing archiving and archaeological efforts related to Sylvester Manor and its history.
