THEATER SERIES: MCCARTER HAS BEEN LED BY ARTISTIC DIRECTOR AND RESIDENT PLAYWRIGHT EMILY MANN SINCE 1990 AND COMMISSIONS, DEVELOPS AND PRODUCES AMBITIOUS NEW WORKS ALONGSIDE PROVOCATIVE NEW PRODUCTIONS OF CLASSIC PLAYS AND MODERN MASTERPIECES. EACH YEAR, MCCARTER PRESENTS FIVE PROFESSIONALLY PRODUCED PLAYS AND OUR ANNUAL PRODUCTION OF A CHRISTMAS CAROL TO MORE THAN 71,000 PATRONS, INCLUDING 3,681 SUBSCRIBERS. IN ADDITION MCCARTER WORKS WITH ESTABLISHED AND EMERGING PLAYWRIGHTS IN WORKSHOPS, READINGS AND LAB EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO DEVELOP NEW WORK. IN THE PAST TWENTY-NINE YEARS, MCCARTER HAS INTRODUCED OVER 56 NEW PLAYS INTO THE CANON OF AMERICAN THEATRE.
