Mission

The Dog Alliance's mission is to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families through programs incorporating the powerful connection between dogs and humans. To achieve our mission we provide a diversity of programs: • The Hounds for Heroes program provides service dogs for Veterans challenged by the visible and invisible wounds of war. • The Bow Wow Reading Dogs program enhances the reading skills of students by utilizing dog therapy teams at schools and libraries. • The Bow Wow Therapy program provides animal-assisted therapy to people of all ages in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and nursing homes.

About

Hounds for Heroes Service Dog program improves the lives of Veterans with highly trained service dogs who mitigate the challenges of veterans living with post-traumatic stress and or mobility impairments (i.e., requires a cane, walker or wheelchair) caused by their service to our country. Dogs that change careers mid-training improve the lives of military families with a disabled family member. Dogs that are not an ideal fit for placement with disabled individuals are placed as family pets. Service dogs are trained seven days a week for 12 - 18 months, depending on the tasks required by the veteran and the age of the dog at the start of training. In 2018, 8 puppies were born through our breeding program. 4 pure breed dogs were donated. 2 pure breed puppies were purchased. 1 service dog was retired and rehomed as a pet. 6 adult dogs were taken in from a shelter.
