Mission

The Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) promotes the study, interpretation, and conservation of architecture, design, landscapes, and urbanism worldwide for the benefit of all. SAH serves as a network of local, national, and international institutions and individuals who, by vocation or avocation, focus on the built environment and its role in shaping contemporary life. SAH has more than 3,500 members world-wide. SAH’s headquarters are located in Chicago in the historic Charnley-Persky House (CPH), designed by architects Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright in 1891. SAH operates the Charnley -Persky House tours and store.

Study:tours and conference - SAH hosts an annual conference which allows architectural historians, art historians, architects, museum professionals, and preservationists from around the world a venue to share new research on the history of the built environment. Study tours are organized in different geographical locations so participant may learn about different types and styles of world architecture. Grants and fellowships - each year the society awards a number of fellowships to scholars who present papers at the annual conference and participate in the domestic study tours.
