About this organization
Mission
The mission of Boys & Girls Harbor is to empower children and their families to become full, productive participants in society through education, cultural enrichment, and social services. The Harbor accomplishes its mission by making young children's first encounter with formal education a positive one, and gives preschoolers the skills they need to be kindergarten-ready. School-age students receive the individual attention and after-school and summer learning experiences that cannot be offered by their own schools. Dedicated and experienced Harbor teachers recharge students' sense of self purpose and self-worth, and reignite a love for learning so they may begin to and continue to, re-imagine themselves as powerful participants in their own more optimistic future. For more than 40 consecutive years, Boys & Girls Harbor has been located in East Harlem, providing preschool education and afterschool and summer programming, and performing arts education to the children and young people of the low income communities of Harlem as well as the South Bronx. In the 2016-2017 program year, more than 700 students from 18 months through high school are enrolled at Boys & Girls Harbor.
