Mission

As an interfaith organization, FOR’s mission is to organize, train, and grow a diverse movement that welcomes all people of conscience to end structures of violence and war, and create peace through the transformative power of nonviolence.

About

National FOR-USA program staff led a high-visibility campaign advocating reparations for peoples of African descent, including in-person national convening events across the country, online educational webinars, recruitment of institutional partners, and publication of a national magazine dedicated to the topic. Staff also organized and mobilized to support international sanctuary for refugees and migrants. This campaign was informed by FOR-USA's strong participation in the International Fellowship of Reconciliation's quadrennial meeting in 2018 and other ongoing IFOR advocacy work in the United Nations and global NGO sectors. Other exempt purposes were accomplished through various program activities such as multimedia resources, speaking tours, and member mobilizations regarding diverse social justice topics such as gun violence prevention, the nationwide 'Poor People's Campaign' to overcome poverty, and initiatives to resist Islamophobia and religious-based violence. FOR-USA also launched a new organizational website during the year as well as a new publishing partnership with the web-based magazine 'Waging Nonviolence.' FOR-USA staff traveled to various regions of the United States to meet with and strengthen its grassroots network of local chapters and national faith ally organizations.
