Mission

HRIC’s mission is to promote international human rights and advance the institutional protection of these rights in the People’s Republic of China. HRIC's approaches focus on: - Supporting the work of local civil society groups to promote the process of economic, administrative, and legal reforms; - Generating international pressure for social change through monitoring to ensure accountability, transparency, and compliance with the Chinese government's international human rights obligations; and - Strengthening international human rights frameworks and facilitating international cooperation by working with other non-governmental organizations, the UN, and other multilateral and bilateral organizations, national governments, and donors.

About

Casework and defender support: HRIC focuses on human rights defenders who are raising systemic rights issues such as: violations of fundamental rights, corruption, censorship and surveillance, gender-based discrimination, truth and accountability for the June fourth crackdown on the 1989 democracy movement, and repression of religious and cultural and rights of ethnic groups. HRIC supports citizen activism by increasing access to information, bringing international attention to domestic calls for action, providing media support for individual cases, and offering capacity building training and resources for defenders.
