Mission

Children of Bellevue, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 1949 to initiate, fund, and develop special programs and act as an advocate for children and their families within New York City Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. Our programs improve the health, well-being, and development of more than 25,000 children and teens who visit Bellevue each year. On the front line of innovation, our child-centric programs, life-changing services, and groundbreaking research set the standard in pediatric care nationwide. Because we believe that children need more than medicine to thrive.

About

CHILD LIFE AND DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT (CL&DS) We seek to create and expand patient and family-centered care based on the whole child and the family unit as opposed to a diagnosis. Our emphasis is on partnering with parents from a strengths-based perspective, while also taking into consideration the vulnerability of being an underserved, often undocumented population faced with social, psychological, and financial challenges. We work in inpatient pediatrics; inpatient psychiatry; pediatric emergency services; outpatient services including the dental, cardiac, diabetic, and asthma clinics, G.U., pediatric surgery, the comprehensive care clinic for medically fragile pediatric patients, ambulatory surgery, the pre-hospitalization program, and the pre-natal, adolescent parents, and early learning groups. In 2018, 7,643 children received services through 17,074 total visits/interventions. In 2018, we entered all 2017 data in the ACLP Data Collection Center and began 2018 entry, five staff were certified in child life disaster training, the CL&DS department was included in monthly emergency management committee meetings and drills, we started child life verification for the new medical record build with New York City Health + Hospitals (NYC H+H) consultants, and half of staff received mental health first aid certification through New York City Mayors initiative.
