Mission

Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability & Equity (RISE) formerly Rockaway Waterfront Alliance inspires all generations of Rockaway residents to care for their environment and community. We provide civic engagement and youth development programs that advance social equity and the physical well-being of our vibrant, coastal community.

About

Shore Corps Internship: A service learning leadership and 'green' job readiness program for high school students engages youth in environmental stewardship projects such as oyster restoration and floatable debris removal; maintenance of street trees; post-Sandy shoreline conservation; and maintaining the Rockaway hip-hop garden. The youth become environmental ambassadors, sharing environmental messages and practices such as recycling and conservation, with their families/peers. Over 75 students completed the program in 2018.
