About

Friends of the Children NY has one program, it's mentorship program. Friends NY selects the highest-risk children in Central Harlem and the South Bronx and commits to working with them for 12.5 years - kindergarten to high school graduation - no matter what. Our program provides each child (achiever) with a professional salaried mentor (friend) to guide and nurture them through the many challenges they will face in life. Our friends work with each of their achievers year-round, 4 hours a week 16 hours a month. Friends become a consistent part of achievers' lives, helping them improve their academic performance, build positive peer relationships, and develop critical life skills. In FY18, Friends of the Children served 152 children. Our success and impact are measured against our 3 long-term goals for each achiever; to graduate high school, avoid the juvenile justice system, and avoid teenage parenthood. Historically, 91% of our youth graduate high school, 95% avoid the juvenile justice system and 94% avoid early parenting.
