Vision: Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine in its philosophy and through its services will strive to contribute to a world where human relations will be egalitarian and without sexual violence. We will be both proactive and reactive providing education and promoting healing, empowerment and renewal. We will be known for our partnerships with all others committed to this vision. We will be an organization that celebrates and advocates for the human potential for change and growth through adversity. Mission: Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine shall develop and provide quality services to survivors of sexual assault and concerned others in York and Cumberland counties who need assistance resolving issues related to sexual assault. SARSSM shall take a leadership role in encouraging a social climate in which sexual assault is unacceptable. SARSSM shall participate in community planning, develop community resources, and promote education and training programs relating to sexual assault.

Helpline and Accompaniment Services provide accompaniment for victims to local hospitals and police departments for medical care, forensic evidence collection, and police reporting as well as provision of a 24 hour crisis and support line.24-Hour Helpline: provides emotional support, answers the caller's questions and offers appropriate resources. Makes accompaniment available to victims for medical care and/or forensic evidence collection at the hospital. In current year provided 130 hours of helpline support and 69 hours of one-on-one support.Sexual Assault Response Team (SART): SART Advocates help survivors navigate through complex systems following an assault or incident, such as medical, legal, workplace or school systems. In current year provided 1,800 hours of client support in person and by telephone, 231 accompaniments, and averaged 113 on-going monthly clients.Support Groups: provide information, guidance and peer support for people who have experienced sexual violence. Support groups are facilitated by licensed therapists, SARSSM staff, or specialized practitioners in trauma. We offer traditional groups, yoga groups, groups for at-risk teens, jail groups and drop-in services at homeless shelters.
