The Hawaii Theatre opened in 1922 as the flagship theatre of the Consolidated Entertainment empire. Over time, the facility was neglected, and it was nearly demolished after it closed in 1984. Local citizens formed the nonprofit Hawaii Theatre Center (HTC) in 1984 and raised $32m to restore her to her former glory.
