Mission

Public education regarding the death penalty and alternatives to the death penalty.

About

Law enforcement outreach (LEO) works with current and former law enforcement officials who question the death penalty system, which helps to bring real-world experience to the discussion around public safety and the death penalty. In 2018, LEO members spoke at public education events about the problems they have seen with the administration of the death penalty, and were featured in digital story-telling content. For example, the district attorney of San Francisco spoke at a public education event and discussed why he refused to seek the death penalty in murder cases; a former Alameda County deputy DA shared his regret over seeking the death penalty as a part of our California premier tour for a documentary about the death penalty; and a retired FBI agent spoke about his efforts to re-investigate the case of an innocent man currently on death row.
