Mission
Since 1970, CEC has incubated and innovated real life environmental solutions that directly affect the California Central Coast. Our current work advances rapid and equitable solutions to the climate crisis – including ambitious zero carbon goals, drawdown of excess carbon, and protection against the impacts of climate change. Our programs lead to clean vehicles, solar energy, resilient food systems and reduction of single-use plastic.

Engaging the community: our outreach efforts focus on topics related to preventing and adapting to climate change, climate justice, and our energy, food and plastics initiatives. CEC hosts or sponsors more than 80 films, lectures, panels and other events each year on topics related to our mission. We speak regularly at local and state government hearings, as well as in school classrooms to encourage personal action on environmental issues. We organize the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival, which attracts more than 35,000 attendees and 200 environmental vendors each year. We also engage the community through social media and more traditional media.
