In our 50th year, thesecondopinion remains true to its mission to provide free, comprehensive second opinions to adults in California diagnosed with cancer. Our goal is to offer cancer patients and their families, who would not otherwise have access to such services, with a multidisciplinary second opinion, that can clarify their cancer diagnosis and assist them in making informed decisions about their treatment options.In 2018 thesecondopinion accomplish these objectives: 1. We served 186 patients and 100 family members or friends that accompanied thepatient to an in-person or telephone review panel.2. Each cancer patient and their family/friends participated in an open dialogue with a panel of cancer specialists (Medical Oncologist, Radiation Oncologist, Radiologist, Surgeon, Pathologist and other cancer specialists). They received the clarity they needed to make informed medical decisions and manage their disease3. Volunteer cancer specialists provided over 553 hours of professional review.
