About

The Volunteer Center programs strengthen the capacity of the nonprofit sector and individual agencies to tap the vast resources that volunteers bring, particularly corporate-sector employees with professional skills, and provide those volunteers with meaningful volunteer opportunities that deliver significant impact throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2017/18 program service accomplishments included:1.) Volunteer Referral: nonprofits across San Francisco and the Peninsula received referrals for key volunteer positions.2.) Nonprofit Training and Consulting: We provided nonprofit capacity-building trainings for nonprofits, including Creating and Running a Successful Volunteer Program, and Nonprofit Board Recruitment and Retention. 93% of responding participants provided a rating of good or better; The Volunteer Center continued to partner with the Governors Office to expand the Service Enterprise Initiative in California; the initiative itself is aimed at identifying nonprofit organizations that are functioning at a very high level as service enterprises: organizations that fundamentally integrate all types of volunteers into their core operations; properly invest in the infrastructure and management of volunteer systems; direct volunteer effort to true community need; and partner effectively across sectors.3.) Board Member Recruitment and Matching: We expanded the number of new board members lending professional skills to nonprofits through the Board Match, a job-fair-like event that introduces nonprofit executive directors and their board members to prospective board candidates. Board Match San Francisco attracted 1,000 prospective board candidates to meet with leaders from 175 exhibiting nonprofits resulting in over 250 new board members within a year of the event. Research shows that each new board member gives or brings an average $9,400 in cash and cash equivalent donations to their organizations. Every year thereafter that they serve. Thats $2,350,000 each year from those 250 placements. Board Match Silicon Valley, Board Match New York, Board Match Los Angeles, and Board Match Washington DC attracted up to 500 candidates to meet 100 nonprofits in each locale.4.) Executive Board Matching: targeted leaders from Bay Area companies for one-on-one nonprofit board placement, with nearly two dozen senior executives placed.
