Mission

Founded in 1990, Youth Community Service engages young people from diverse midpeninsula communities in meaningful service-based learning. YCS students build leadership and life skills, empathy for the needs of others, and a sense of connectedness, purpose and empathy, while making a positive difference in the lives of those around them. We learn from the research of Kelly McGonigal, PhD, Stanford CCARE, "When we care for others, it changes our biochemistry, activating systems of the brain that produce feelings of hope and courage." At YCS, we believe that every young person with a heart full of service has a future of meaning and purpose.

About

Using principles of social-emotional learning, YCS staff guide youth toward health and wellness, helping them build a sense of connectedness, compassion, perspective and confidence. YCS offers after-school and classroom programs in local school districts, community service days, and Summer of Service camp, and this year reached over 1,200 young people ages 11 to 18.
