Mission

The YWCA of Greater Portland's mission is to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

About

Domestic violence services: During the year ended June 30, 2018 the Yolanda Project continued to support women in acute domestic violence crisis situations to achieve and maintain safety and rebuild their lives. Embedded in public housing and community locations, advocates worked with survivors to retain housing and with landlords to understand their obligations under the Violence Against Women Act regulations. The YWCA's Yolanda House model of shared housing expanded to five houses by June 30, 2018. All five houses continued to provide permanent housing to homeless women and children escaping domestic violence as they heal from trauma through self-managed communities. Total served: 890 people, 76% of whom were people of color.
