Conduct and promote non-partisan analysis, study and research of public policy issues affecting the Silicon Valley, including housing, environmental protection, education, land use and energy, and help alleviate human need and suffering in the region by combating hunger, deprivation and physical affliction with the provision of funding for food, clothing, shelter, medical care and other basic necessities of life. Building community: Silicon Valley Turkey Trot The foundation directed the annual Applied Materials 'Silicon Valley Turkey Trot' in 2018. The community/charity 5k walk or run, 10k run and kid's fun run drew 21,170 participants contributing $900,000 to five local charities: Second Harvest Food Bank, Silicon Valley Housing Trust, The Health Trust, Healthier Kids, and Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz.
